12th International Mini-Textiles Competition

Since 1993, the Musée Jean-Lurçat et de la Tapisserie contemporaine has hosted this special event dedicated to contemporary textile creation.  In so doing, Angers confirms its status as the city of weaving and textiles through the organization of this international event. The last edition took place in 2017.
The aim is to encourage research, creation and innovation in the field of textile art. The theme of the 2021 edition is Mesure/Démesure, which can be translated as Moderation/Immoderation.

Each artist must present a work made from thread or inspired by thread, whose dimensions do not exceed 12 x 12 x 12cm, either in surface or volume.
Amongst the 450 works submitted and coming from all five continents, a jury, comprised of artists, museum curators and specialized art historians, selected sixty-two works. The result is an exhibition featuring both recognized and emerging artists where the modest format does little to restrain the diversity and talent on display.

Adding to the exhibition, the acquisitions from the previous triennial Free as art! may also be seen. These pieces complement a museum collection already boasting some one hundred “little” artworks.
